Curriculum Vitae Research project: Using MRI to Track Oxygenation Levels in the Brain
The brains dependance on a constant and adequate delivery of oxygen is quite unique in that its absence can lead to a full stop in metabolism within just seconds. Many forms of disease in the brain such as vascular dementia or ischemia can arise from even mild or short interuptions in oxygen supply to any one area. Despite its importance, a non-invasive method to measure oxygenation in the brain is yet to be developed. The goal of this project is to measure brain oxygenation under different breathing conditions to track changes in oxygen diffusion and ultimately to map brain oxygenation using MRI.
